1. Holbrook – Wild West Meets Dinosaurs
🦕 Wigwam Motel: Stay in one of the original “Sleep in a Wigwam” motels from the 1950s.
🛤 Blevins House / Historic Courthouse: Part of Holbrook’s shootout history—think real Wild West vibes.
🦴 Petrified Forest National Park (just outside town): Besides ancient logs, the park preserves parts of historic Route 66, including a vintage car installation where the road used to pass through.
2. Winslow – More Than Just a Song
📍 Standin’ on the Corner Park: Yes, the Eagles made it famous, but it’s also a slice of 20th-century small-town Americana.
🏛 La Posada Hotel: Designed by famed architect Mary Colter, it's one of the last great railroad hotels and beautifully restored.
3. Meteor Crater – Space + Science History
🛰️ This impact site has been studied since the 1800s and was used for Apollo astronaut training. There's a great museum and lookout.
4. Flagstaff – Route 66 Meets Railroads & Astronomy
🏛 Downtown Flagstaff: Loaded with preserved Route 66-era neon signs and buildings.
🚂 Flagstaff Station: Historic railroad station still in use, tied into Route 66 lore.
🔭 Lowell Observatory: Where Pluto was discovered—awesome overlap of science and Arizona heritage.
🏞 Riordan Mansion: An Arts & Crafts-style mansion from 1904, showing off Flagstaff’s early days.
5. Williams – Gateway to the Grand Canyon
⏱️ Last Town Bypassed by I-40 in 1984 – a huge deal in Route 66 history.
🏛 Pete’s Route 66 Gas Station Museum: Retro gas pumps and memorabilia.
🚂 Grand Canyon Railway Depot: A beautifully preserved 1908 train station, and the train still runs!
6. Ash Fork – Flagstone Capital
🧱 Small, quiet town, but stop by the Ash Fork Route 66 Museum for a hyper-local glimpse of life on the Mother Road.
7. Seligman – Birthplace of Route 66 Revival
🧔 Angel Delgadillo’s Barber Shop: Angel helped spearhead the preservation of Route 66. His shop is now a time capsule museum.
📸 Walk the main strip—tons of mid-century signs, murals, and shops full of old-school charm.
8. Peach Springs – Native American History
🌄 Located on the Hualapai Reservation.
🌊 Access to Grand Canyon West and the Skywalk (off the road a bit, but culturally rich).
🧭 The town was the inspiration for Radiator Springs in Cars.
9. Kingman – Route 66 Royalty
🏛 Arizona Route 66 Museum: One of the best on the whole route—covers prehistoric times to post-war travel culture.
🖼 Powerhouse Visitor Center: Housed in a historic power plant with gorgeous murals and maps.
🚙 Classic car displays and walking tours downtown.
10. Oatman – Wild West Time Capsule
🐴 Burros (wild donkeys) roam freely here—descendants of miners' animals.
🤠 Daily Old West gunfight reenactments.
🏚️ Gold mining town turned ghost town turned quirky tourist stop. Tons of old buildings with bullet holes and vintage signage.
